Introduction

About Monmouth Zen Circle – Compassion Ocean Sangha

Monmouth Zen Circle, formerly Elberon Zen Circle, is a Soto Zen Buddhist practice community in the lineage of Shunryu Suzuki-roshi, the founder of the San Francisco Zen Center. We are affiliated with One Heart Zen by way of our relationship with Kotatsu John Bailes, the Guiding Teacher of the Monmouth Zen Circle.

The mission of the Monmouth Zen Circle is to share the Zen attitude, spirit, and practice with the world.

Our primary practice is zazen– Zen Meditation – often referred to as ‘sitting still, doing nothing.’ Zazen is an ancient practice originating in India and brought to Japan from China by the Zen Priest Eihei Dōgen the founder of Sōtō Zen Buddhism.

The Compassion Ocean Sangha comes together to practice zazen each Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m. at Edgewood House, behind the main Unitarian Church at 1475 West Front St., Lincroft, just west of Middletown-Lincroft Rd.
